SnapShots:  Personal Perspectives on Hunger

  • NAHN presented an innovative photography exhibit portraying hunger and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/food stamps). Partnering with the Chicago Photography Center, cameras were distributed to clients, volunteers and employees of Northside social service agencies. Over 40 amateur photographers captured first hand their personal perspectives on the everyday challenge of hunger.

Community Shares: Nutrition from the Ground Up

  • NAHN member St. Ignatius Food Pantry partnered with the Glenwood Sunday Market to create the Community Shares Program. This highly successful project brought locally grown organic food to the families of three Chicago Public Schools. During the summer months, families were introduced to seasonal vegetables and instructed on how to prepare them. This NAHN-created program was awarded the Golden Beet Award by the Illinois Stewardship Alliance.

Farmers Markets: Partnerships with a Purpose

  • Joining forces with area farmer’s markets during the summer has allowed NAHN agencies to provide clients with much-desired fresh, local produce. Each week NAHN agencies rotated participation in the Glenwood Sunday Market and Uptown Farmers Market. Produce donations received from market patrons and vendors were used by NAHN agencies.
